What you’ll be doing...

The Financial Systems Group (FSG) Programs and Strategy Team is responsible for strategy and implementation of systems solutions that support ERP (Enterprise Resource Platform) activity for Verizon Finance, Accounting, AP, and Payroll within the Verizon Group with sales over $120 billion. For large Payroll programs, the Payroll Systems leader identifies issues, requests, and decisions that affect the Payroll & Time Entry aspects of shared applications and drives cooperative solutions for all stakeholders while ensuring that programs and projects deliver on-time and fulfill all strategic objectives. The lead also drives and coordinates user story identification and user acceptance testing with Payroll SMEs (subject matter experts) across process teams (Processing, Payroll Tax, Audit & Compliance, Data & Reporting, Time Entry, User Experience, and Customer Service).

  • Payroll systems functional expert and project management for Payroll / Time Entry systems for new feature development, application upgrades, system implementations, and defect fixes – must understand the interplay between the various process areas within Payroll (Processing, Payroll Tax, Audit & Compliance, Data & Reporting, Time Entry, User Experience and Customer Service).
  • Assist with large-scale, complex projects (duration >1y, budget >$ 10mil.) within the Finance organization. Significant impact on Verizon Finance and IT landscape (line of sight >2y.)
  • Comprehensive responsibility and decision authority for plan, build, deliver, run, status & budget tracking/responsibility of broad-impact Payroll projects (end2end development and deployment) and programs.
  • Leverages Agile and other methodologies (Scrum, Kanban) to manage project activities through Go Live in a continuous release environment.
  • Leads multiple cross-functional teams to solve for Payroll impacting projects and issues via process and/or system changes
  • Ascertains payroll operations and upstream/downstream system impacts from complex requirements of projects across the company
  • Initiates and generates creative solutions and then designs the plan and teams necessary to deploy
  • Responsible for results as measured in project / process delivery from to-be deliverable(s)
  • Responsible for project progress metrics and results relating to stage gates, testing, and user acceptance
  • Designs, defines, and improves processes and tools to support and mature team service delivery
  • Works independently to generate and execute final solutions / final decisions to complex business problems
  • Creates gap analyses between as-is / to-be systems; defines and presents alternatives and business cases to support fit gap solutions
  • Develops and presents status and impact communications to affected stakeholders (from project to executive sponsors)
  • Flexible collaboration, complex solution/consensus development and central point of contact for multiple internal and external (e.g. IT, Finance, Payroll, Labor, Top-management level etc.) and different level of stakeholder groups (especially Top-Management/executive level) with various demands/requirements and intersections to align/define the long-term strategy, align/decide on the project prioritization to fulfill the strategic goals
  • Compliance to Verizon-wide policies and procedures or direct impact on the re-design of existing policies and procedures

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or six or more years of work experience
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience
  • Five or more years of experience leading projects in an Agile environment including user story, business rule, and acceptance criteria definition
  • Knowledge of payroll and financial systems (PeopleSoft HCM, Oracle Cloud HCM, or similar)
  • Knowledge of software testing theories and practices with direct experience test planning, writing test scripts, identifying test data and scenarios, and defect resolution before Go Live

Even better if you have:

  • BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, FP&A, IT, or Project Management.

  • Scrum Master experience preferred
  • Software release management
  • PMP certification
  • Advanced understanding of accounting systems, and accounting principles
  • Advanced skills within a professional project management discipline: PMP, Six Sigma or Prince2
  • Manages programs, projects, and issues with a sense of urgency, commitment to quality, and unwavering customer focus
  • Reporting and systems delivery background; ability to complete concurrent complex projects without considerable direction
  • Excellent risk analysis, risk avoidance, and risk mitigation skills with proactive problem-solving and communication
  • Sustains big picture and delivery focus in a high volume and changing environment with prioritization and time management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, influencing, and organizational skills and the ability to deliver across levels (executive to analyst)
