Detailed Job Description:
General Summary : Coordinate work and provide day-to-day direction for Accounts Payable and Payroll frontline staff ensuring timely and accurate payments to suppliers and employees. Deliver excellent quality service to students, faculty and staff, and external customers.
 
Major Responsibilities:
 

  • Coordinate work ensuring that members of the Payroll and Accounts Payable (AP) teams execute their payables and payroll responsibilities timely and with a high degree of accuracy in accordance with RIT policies and procedures. Provide input for the staff's professional development / training and work plans.
  • Perform a variety of specialized payroll tasks including:
    • Process and maintain all payroll involuntary deductions including garnishments support orders, federal and state tax levies
    • Prepare payroll "gross to net" flux analysis of earnings and deductions, ensuring that totals reflect current and accurate payroll activity
    • Prepare cash funding requests for payroll activity including ACH, payroll checks and funding for 3rd party providers
    • Verify all manual pay calculations including review of short term disability and workers compensation
    • Manage and execute accounts payable direct deposit returns, check stop payments and void checks including resolution of payment as necessary.  
  • Recruit, interview, hire, train and supervise Payroll and AP student employees.
  • Make recommendations to enhance/improve day-to-day accounts payable and payroll processes and tasks assigned to Payroll and AP staff.
  • Deliver accounts payable training to the RIT campus community. 
  • Complete special projects as assigned by management.  
  • Participate in a minimum of 40 hours of training/professional development annually.  Training must be applicable to the employee's role current within the Controller's Division with the intent of enhancing overall knowledge as well as the specific skills, whether functional or technical, required to perform successfully in the position. 

Required Minimum Qualifications:

Requirements:
BS in Business Administration or Accounting required
Five to six years progressive payroll, timekeeping and accounts payable experience required preferably utilizing Oracle HRMS or PeopleSoft applications.
Highly developed technical skills including MS Excel, Word and Access required.
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, federal /state tax regulations including garnishment and support laws required with prior experience leading a team and coordinating work.  

Skills:
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail required.
Must possess excellent time management and communication skills, exercise judgement in executing job responsibilities and have the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
The Payroll and Accounts Payable Team Lead will act as a role model for delivering quality customer service.
