The purpose of this class is to provide advanced level accounting support for the Payroll Department, including internal auditing, financial reporting and account reconciliation, in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and federal, state and local guidelines.

Compensation within the posted range is determined by a candidate's education level and/or years of experience in the field.  Generally, employees are hired in the lower third of the scale. 
 Minimum Requirements: Bachelor's Degree and two years related experience or Associate's Degree and seven years related experience; knowledge and experience using Microsoft Office applications and financial management systems.

 Class Specific Essential Duties:

  1. Assist Director of Payroll in report preparation and financial management system maintenance and support.
  2. Audit and disburse payroll liabilities to outside agencies, prepare adjusting entries and reconcile liability accounts.
  3. Prepare adjusting entries for voided checks and direct deposit reversals, worker's compensation adjustments, corrected W-2's, imputed income adjustments, etc.
  4. Manage W2 process, reconciling and auditing wages and withholding throughout the year, and coordinating the printing of W2 forms with outside vendors.
  5. Prepare payroll related tax returns and supporting documentation and schedules.
  6. Maintain garnishment files, prepare and expedite wage attachments and disburse payment to agencies in accordance with regulations.
  7. Prepare accounting schedules and reports for management and for external auditors and agencies.
  8. Oversee the testing of new tax withholding laws and benefit deductions in the financial management system, as well as system upgrades.

 Position Specific Essential Duties: 1. Assist the Human Resources Department with new hire orientation   disseminating pertinent payroll processes and procedures.

2.  Research tax law and attend webinars to keep current on new regulations and tax changes.

3.  Train staff, as necessary.
